Changes: Poems of Conscience

Onion love

I love you cried the bloody welts
Don't leave me said the violet bruises
The dark marks of a dark time
Where reasons rests and passions play
With hands and fire and knives, abuses
Peeling away the layers of the onion
Bringing tears to the eyes
So many tears are shed
So many layers peeled away
That burn the many cuts outside and in
And yet the onion remains
Core and skin and skin and skin

To what end do you stay
You cry the tears of an onion love
And yet you stay, still you stay
What else is there, what other way
You leave and you will be alone
All alone when push comes to shove
Smiling from behind a waterfall of tears
And seeing a rose-tinted world
From behind a blackened-eye
Reality blurs and never clears
So you stay and you stay
While peeling layer after layer
Of yourself away.

boys will be boys

with bronze arms,
and stone hearts,
warriors look for conquests.
whistling cat calls,
"here pussy pussy",
and wanting just that.
boys being boys,
like the dogs that lick their balls,
are just being dogs.
