I slide like an icy godling,
Slip down the wave-face
In unseen tracks lesser beings dare not tread.
Child of the ever-night,
In ever-wider circles swimming,
Draw great lungsfull of sweet air
Chase down to the welcoming depths again.
Man thought he saw me drift by -
How could he miss me?
Not feel my passing heat?
But shook himself, I was just a dream
Unbidden and fading fast,
Like ice on a warming sea.
Perhaps, my supper cold in my belly
Maybe I'll sing a tune
Turn the head of some distant opposite
Who'll ponder a moment,
Wonder who it was who called,
And go her way, no reply.
Untouchable, untouched
Maybe I'll just try again to see the moon.
