From Angie V.

Anna,
Hi there! I was looking at your site today and you've got some really great information there! I saw your site a few months ago, and I see that you've made some additions! Good job!I study Shotokan Karate in Colorado and have a website that I've created for Women In Karate (http://pages.ivillage.com/angiemoshier/karate/). I'd like to put a link to your page on mine, and I would love for you to put a link to my page from yours. [That would be great.  We've added you to this site!]
By the way, Sensei Nina Chenault (you have a picture of her on your athletes page) was my instructor in Minneapolis where I started my training 6 years ago. I have also trained alongside Anita Bendickson, who is also from Minnesota. Both of them are wonderful women and great karateka. One mistake I found on your page though was that the AAKF stands for the "American Amateur Karate Federation" not the "All American Karate Federation."  [Thanks!  We fixed it!]   I belonged to the AAKF when I trained in Minneapolis.
Let me know if you'd like to exchange links! If you're interested, I have a banner for my site that can be found here: http://pages.ivillage.com/angiemoshier/karate/banner.jpg
Keep up the good work on your website!

Women In Karate

From Miss S.

Hi, I was checking out this awesome site i heard about at work. i teach American Kenpo Karate in Colorado and i think that this is an amazing thing that you have put together. I have female students that come in wary at times because karate is a "boy thing" We better prove them wrong! The pictures on here are awesome. I really like the ones where you are with your instructors. They look like they are really cool teachers! lol.   Keep on Kickin'      Miss S.

From Monte

This is my assistant instructor, (Emily Koontz) you will find photos of her
throughout the website, but this is her page.  I feel she is a role model for
females in the martial arts everywhere.  Let me know what you think!

From Meghan

Hi there girl!!
I think your site is totally awesome! I love the page about female athletes, but I think the Humor sites are the bomb! :-) Anyway, here's my bio:
Name: Meghan
Age: 16
State: California
Belt rankz: (Kids) Junior Blackbelt, (Adult) Green Belt [5th kyu]  Aw, so confusing! heh heh. Actually, the kids get different colors than the adults (ie: kids dont get REAL blackbelts, we get RED belts,) so I train with one foot in one class and one foot in the other. That way, I get twice the training! :-)
Style: Shito- ryu Itosu-kai Karate-do. Kind of a mouthful, but it's a traditional Okinawan style, and basically sister style to Shotokan, (but the stances are SO much easier, and no head-snapping!) I train under Sensei Fumio Demura in Southern Calif. He is totally awesome, but still has that Old-country persona. He's the best. :-) Oh yeah... My height: SHORT! I'm sorry to say it but, yeah, I'm short. I didn't ask to be this tall, but I think Karate is the best sport you can take for it. I have an edge in kata, because my stances look lower and I have an advantage in speed, (I just need to learn how to use it!) ;-) I have a message for all those Underdogs out there: Don't let ANYONE look down on you, especially from the blockheads you'll see in class. Because one day, you'll be going places and winning trophies and they won't... they'll be flipping burgers at McDonald's! Go girls!!!!! Well, enough jabber. Time for the web sites!
------> The karate dance. It's a variation of the Hamster Dance and has a lots of neat animations, plus a lesson in karate philosophy:

-------> The Ninja Burger! This site is SO funny! www.ninjaburger.com
Well, I hope you can use these on your site, and keep up the GREAT work!
a fellow karateka,

Meghan

From Sarah

Hello I'm 15 years old and Martial arts is life for me.  My name is Sarah K
from Skandia Michigan. I started Isshinryu Karate When I was 12 in the 7th grade.  I worked out everyday and even did my katas in my head at school did moves in school and in the lunch line.  I was pormoted to Advanced Green belt a little over a year ago before my Sensei moved down state.  And who ever said You learn the most and the best at Green belt you are soooo right.  That summer I went insane because there wasn't a Martial art school near by.  Then one of my friends dad opened a Jujitsu school at the YMCA and I was there.   It wasn't the same as Karate cause I felt more at home there than at Jujitsu but I was welcomed and feel calm.  Thats the thing about Martial arts I dont' feel right or safe outside of the dojo.  Now I'm almost a Orange belt in Jujitsu and even play soccer in between breaks.  I wish to continue Isshinryu Karate but its really hard when its very far away.  I love this site and I'm
glad there is one.  Girls kick butt!!!!  Thanks.

From Ciara

Hi there,
My name is Ciara O' C, and I am a student of the International Kenpo Karate Assoc. I am a student based in a club in Ireland. My rank is 2nd degree black and I am 20 years old. At the moment I am traveling Canada and I was browsing and I stumbled upon your website. I would have to say that I am very pleased to come across a website for girls involving karate. I started in karate when I was 7years old and received my jr.black belt when I was 13. Its great to see that there are so many other girls interested in martial arts.I have entered many European Karate Championships in the recent years. Ive been very lucky to travel to Greece, Amsterdam in the netherlands, the channel islands(twice) and Ive also took part in the International Championships in L.A. in 1996. I hope that we will be able to keep in touch.Once again I congratulate you on the idea of a website for girls. Yours faithfully,
Ciara O' C, Dublin, Ireland.

From Natasha

Hi! I'm Natasha and I live in Indiana.  I am a green belt in Tae kwon do.  I do Kata, Kumite, Weapons (saihs), and Self- Defense with another girl in Karate.  she is a brown belt in Shuri-Ryuand a purple belt in Jujitsu.  I am 12 years old and she is 11.  Karate has helped me aot alot cause boys don't think girls can do it and we know we can and we always prove them wrong. (exspecially in fighting when we beat them up)  All I know is that i love karate and exspecially tournaments they are the best.  I would recomend Karate to anyone and everyone .  My sisters one is a yellow belt( she is 8) and my other sister is a white belt(she is 6).  I really appreciate this website because Karate is not just a boy sport!!!!!  Thanks Good luck.

From Rubi

Hello , My name is Rubi. I am from California & I'm 18 years old. My sisters ( ages 20, 11, 9) & I all practice Kenpo Karate , we are currently all orange belts. Our Instructer is Mr. Rojas ( Hugo M. Rojas II ) , he's really kewl. And to my surprise he's really well known all around the world. Who da thunk it? Well it just so turns out that he is the president er... founder of the California youth karate club,( Inc. ). It turns out that he was the first guy who got his black belt from the Grand Master Ed Parker. Anyways, I just thought that I would write to let you know that it feels preety good to know that there's other girls out there who also practice Kenpo. Drop me a line some time if you wanna.
