Notes from Girls in Karate Around the World

From Chelsie Y.

"Hi, my name is Chelsie Y., i have been in karate for 6 years, i have 1 black belt in Tae Soo Do, and I have a blue belt in A.K.K.A (Mr. Parker system) and I am testing for my second black belt in june of 2003 in A.K.K.A (Mr. Bill Paker system) in Olathe, Kansas. I am on the STORM team (special team of roal models), and i am in the advanced classes. I am 15 years old, and karate is my life. I go to tournaments all the time, and i was wondering if you knew of any Kenpo related tournaments in colorado, if there are ever any, i would appreciate it, if you could inform me about them. Is your Kenpo a Parker system or a Paker system?
Thanks a lot,
Chelsie Y."

From Hiba R.

"Hi There! my name is hiba, I am 14 years old and i live in kuwait. I go to the kuwait karate federation. I have the brown belt. In opinion karate is fun. It organizes your life. It gives you concentration, strength and self- confidence. My frinends or my family thought at the beging that it is a boyish sport, but as soon as I took lessons for 2 years theynthought it is asume. Really martial can totaly change the life for a girl. If a girl is in a dangerous sistuation she can handle it and kick some butt. I LOVE IT! LOVE IT! LOVE IT! I play karate 3 times aweek and the rest i play other sports such as basketball, swimming, volleyball, and aerobics, by the way do you know of any girls karate culb in kuwait. if you find one please give me a notice!!!!"

From Eleonora

"Ciao Anna!
My name
s Eleonora and Im an Italian girl-in-karate (so, please excuse my bad english...)Im 17 years old and Ive practised Shotokan karate since 2000. Im an advanced Orange belt and tomorrow Im going to undergo another exam: this one is for Green belt.
This time it will be really hard to pass the examination because, in our karate style, there is a great difference between my kyu and the next one, so I must use all my strength and my concentration (or, you know, my zenshin...) to succeed in this text.
In spite of the strong will required in this discipline, I
m really looking forward to the exam because its useful to improve myself and my bad character.
Some months ago I was looking for something interesting about martial arts when I discovered your site and I immediately thought your work was really well done, but now its even better.
Now, thanks to my Easter Holidays, Ive found time enough to write to you, because I wanna let you know that I appreciate your idea: girls in karate really need their own space (and it seems that theyre strong enough ;-) to take it!).
Its amazing to know that so many girls are interested in karate all over the world.
Here in my country people often think of karate as a boy-only sport, but I suppose someday we will definitively prove them wrong!
My teachers are in that minority which thinks that women are as good as men in this sport and I
m proud of them.
I really need karate because the only place where I feel right, at home, is my dojo and I think I will never give up this wonderful... art (Yes! Its a refined form of art!).
If you want an Italian pen... ops!... E-mail-friend Im here: I would be really happy to keep in touch with you! Have you got time enough to add me to your address-book?
I hope to hear about you soon!
Ciao ciao

From Laila B.

"My name is Laila B. I'm a green belt in Bilalian Ryu Jujitsu.
I am 15 years old and I live in NYC the Bronx. Me and my sister is said to be one of the best Female Martial Artists that's growing up. But the only problem I have with that is we don't get enough publicity. We teach and participate in seminars, Exhibitions, and tournaments (which we only get 1st or 2nd place trophies) and we still are not known throughout the world or country. Like many other Female Martial Artists I don't think we'll ever be known but this website is making me think differently. Their are plenty of black and Latino female Martial Artist that aren't known around the world and need to be for instance have you ever heard of Sensi Dawn-Marie, Sensi Rachel "rocky" Rivera, or Shinan Linda Ramzy well if you didn't you have an opportunity to right here."

From Kari W.

"Hi I live in SLC,Utah and I take karate and have been for almost 6 years.(Im 15 now) And Im a pervisoinal black belt. I think its great that more girls want to join karate and I was looking over your website, and noticed that you were looking for a girls-only karate class. I dont know about that because I really dont think there are alot of girls in my karate school. And I dont nkow what I would do if there were no guys in my karate! I LOVE having the guyz to hang out with! I dont like sparring (fighting) girls!!! You can just beat up on guys and they dont care! But thats my opinion. I just want to say, if you need any help with any questions or anything you want to know, I'll be glad to help. I just thought I would say 'hey' to a fellow martial artist."

From Catt

"Hi! I'm a ni-dan from Malaysian Association Shito-Ryukarate-do and glad that I came across your site. It's great to know that there's lotsa karate 'freaks' like me out there. Anyway, I know this may be out of the tangeant, as I'm not from San Francisco, but I do conduct classes for karate girls here in Malaysia. Your Muslim friend may not be able to join my class, but she can always contact me for any advise regarding the art. Cheerio, Catt"

From Vicky

"Hi Anna,
My name is Vicky, I participated in karate quite a few years ago.  I belonged to Jeff Speakman's Kenpo Karate studio and unfortunately only advanced to about orange.  I had to quit early because my mother couldn't make the drive etc etc.  I am now a senior in high school, and I am deffinetly going to get back to doing it when I graduate or during college.  I was excited when I saw your web-site, very cool.  I am a karate nut.  I love karate.  My best friends all just received their black belts, I wish I could have joined them, someday I will.  I have been to the Ed Parker Long Beach International Tournament and watched one of my friends receive a first place!  I also went to the International Jeff Speakman karate camp, this past summer, and was very lucky to be able to meet Mr. Parker Jr, Mr. Sepulvda, Mr. Holden, Mr. Dye and more.  Last year my best friend went to Europe and competed in the International Karate Championships held in Plymoth, he received first in weapons.  I just wanted to say I love your site, and I will deffinetly help send the word to friends when I can.
Thank you,
Vicky"

FightingTwo.gif (24736 bytes) This is me during my Provisional Black Belt test.  Part of my test was to fight two people at once.  The hardest part was to not get in between them where they could hit me in the back of the head.
