ABSTRACT
The service organizations within the Department of Defense are responsible for the design, development, production and fielding of capabilities and technologies in weapon systems, communications, and platform systems. Within the Department of the Army, the annual acquisition cost is approximately $20.0 billion. In the execution of this massive effort, there is a considerable impact on both the public and private sectors in the support to this acquisition effort. In the constantly changing military project management business, the Department of Defense (DoD) requires a common framework for requirements definition, funding, acquisition and reporting of major programs. This framework allows all those involved: developers, contractors, military and media, to name a few, to understand and work within a clearly defined system. By virtue of the billions of dollars spent by the military on an annual basis, these standards are critical to an efficient and effective military acquisition process. Significant community effort is required to provide the business and technical support required to maintain this acquisition giant. The subject course will provide a better understanding of the DOD process of project management and better prepare both public and private sector personnel to work within this arena.
