A Bar Mitzvah is literally son (bar) of the Covenant, a coming-of-age ceremony that marks the time when a young man is considered a legal adult within the Jewish community. After a child becomes Bar Mitzvah, he can be included as a member of a "minion" and participate in a religious service, very important in Jewish life.

The following is a description of the day. If something is in italics, it's an explanation for my relatives - my kind of Transliteration.

A luncheon (like a wedding reception) will follow.

There will be a "Candle lighting" ceremony for Connor's 13th birthday where he will pay tribute to those he loves. There will also be a "Breaking of the Challah" (bread over prayer).

Mostly it will be lots of fun as we help Connor to celebrate this very important occasion.

If you've never been to a Bar Mitzvah before, the service will be at our temple (which is space in a beautiful in church) in Easton, MA. It will last approximately 2 hours.

During the service, Connor will read to you in Hebrew from the Torah (Old Testament) and chant. We will have booklets explaining the service and a Transliteration (Hebrew alphabet to English alphabet) and a translation of the Hebrew to the English for you to follow.

Guests will be called up to do "Honors". Some will read in Hebrew, some will cover, uncover and carry the Torah.

The theme will be "all about Connor". Each table will represent something that he loves. We're having a great time with this so far.
