What is SEPAC?
A parent advisory council is a school-wide organization of parents, teachers, and administrators working in partnership
to promote innovative educational environments where children with special needs have equal access to educational opportunities.
SEPAC provides parent education, support and training at the local level. Workshops, parent connections, newsletters, websites,
and referrals provide broad outreach.
The council provides valuable feedback and information to the school district, school committee and various educators.
SEPAC can assist the school in reducing the frustrations that parents can experience when they first stumble into special
education. One thing is certain: early detection and intervention are vital for children with special needs. Every child deserves
the opportunity to reach his/her FULL potential. SEPAC can assist parents in accessing the information and direction they
need to facilitate that process.
The Parent Advisory Council is not a school council. They are two different organizations with a different, but
equally important focus and mission. School Councils are specific to a particular school. Parent Advisory Councils are specific
to an entire community and school district.
