3D Anaglyphs

So, what exactly is an "anaglyph" ? Well, that's the technical term for the type of images that produce a 3D-like effect when viewed through filters of 2 different colors. [As opposed to LCD shutters which turn on/off very rapidly, or polarized filters, or light/dark filters.]

You're probably most familiar with these from old "3D movies" for which you wore glasses with red and blue filters. These days, you can get better results using red and cyan ("blue-green") filters -- I recommend using red/cyan for viewing the images and movies on this site, but red/blue will also work. You should have the red filter covering your left eye.

This was my very first anaglyph (Jan 1, 2006). It was created using a custom tool I wrote to combine 2 simple raytraced images. I'm a bit amazed that the first attempt actually worked!
