Andrew and Beth Ann Blackburn's Camping Adventures:
Hilton Head, SC

July 3 - July 8, 2007

Beth Ann and I decided to take some time off at the Hilton Head Harbor and RV Resort at Hilton Head Island, SC. We arrived at campground on Tuesday, July 3. We checked in at the office and were told to take a golf cart around the campground and select our site. Beth Ann and I chose a site that we previously enjoyed, Site 193. We returned the golf cart to office, finished checking in, and then went to our site to set up the camper. Our site had plenty of shade and privacy.

After setting up the camper, we drove over to Hudsons to eat dinner. We waited an hour, before we were seated and served. Afterwards, we went to Rita's for a Gelati. Mmmmm good!! We stopped at Rita's several times during our stay.

Wednesday morning, Folly Beach was full, so we went to the Dreissen Beach. Later in the evening, we ate at the Hilton Head Diner. Traffic was heavy due to the fireworks show at Shelter Cove...Because of the crowds and parking problems, we went back to the Hilton Head Harbor and RV Resort, and found a great site to watch the Fireworks at Hudson's over the river.

Thursday, we went to Folly Beach. We ate sandwiches for lunch. We had a very good pizza that evening from New York City Pizza.

On Friday, we stopped at an Antique Store/Nursery-Greenhouse to browse around. We ate lunch at the Hilton Head Diner, then went to Folly Beach later in the day and stayed only a few hours before the weather became threatening. We returned to the campground and decided to take a dip in one of the swimming pools. We were in the pool only a short time before a storm was eminent. There was a fairly heavy rainfall, along with close lightening and loud claps of thunder moments after we returned to the camper. During the downpour, we heard an awful metallic noise nearby. When the rain subsided, an investigation of the "awful noise" revealed that an awning on a neighboring camper collapsed under the weight of water and the wind from the afternoon storm. OUCH!!! That had to spoil someone's camping trip. That evening, we went to the Sea Shack for dinner. The "shack" in the name describes the building, but the seafood that they serve is delicious. There was a long wait-line out the door, but it's worth the wait. (In my opinion, it's better than Hudson's.)

On Saturday, Folly Beach was full, so we had to settle for Dreissen Beach. Later that evening, we ate at Chic-fil-a.

The 5 days passed quickly. On Sunday, we packed-up the camper and then took a quick hour swim in the pool. Afterwards, we showered, got dressed and left the campground a few minutes after noon. On the way home, we stopped in Bluffton for lunch at the "Squat and Gobble." It was our first time eating there and the food and service was very good. We arrived home around 2pm.
