Beth Ann and I decided to try out a new state park. We packed the camper and the truck and headed to Mistletoe State Park located near Appling, GA. The trip took us a little over 3 hours. We arrived around 11am, Thanksgiving Day.

Since the park office was closed, (and a note on the office door said to pick your own site,) we drove around the campground and settled in to campsite, #68, which offered us a considerable amount of privacy.

Misteltoe State Park is located on Lake Thurmond with most of the campsites offering great views of, or access to the water. Our site, was about 100 ft. from the normal waterfront, but due to drought conditions, the water was much further away.

After we set-up the camper, Beth Ann began preparing a Thanksgiving Day dinner. The turkey and the veggies were ready around 2:45pm. Beth Ann was about to whip up some mashed-potatoes to make "filling," (with her electric mixer,) when the power in the state park went out. Luckily, we had a 12VDC to 120VAC converter in the truck. We connected up the converter to the cigarette lighter and whipped the mashed potatoes in the truck. The Thanksgiving meal was ready to serve at 3:00pm. It was Mmmmmmm good!!
Friday, we checked out two nearby state parks for possible future camping trips. The first state park we visited was A. H. Stephen's in Crawfordville, GA. This was a nice, small, scenic, 25-campsite, State Park.

We also explored Elijah Clark State Park at Lincolnton , GA.
Saturday, we drove to the J. Strom Thurmond Dam and Lake. Thurmond Lake is one of the southeast's largest and most popular public recreation lakes. Built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers between 1946 and 1954 as part of a flood control, hydropower, and navigation project, authorized purposes now include recreation, water quality, water supply, and fish and wildlife management. Beth Ann and I went through the visitors center, then drove down to see the dam.

After leaving the dam, we drove around and explored the Augusta area and ate dinner at Applebee's. We returned to the campground around 9pm. (We wanted to get back before 10pm since the park does not allow re-entry to the park after 10pm.)
Sunday arrived, and it was time to go home. We finished packing the camper after noon, and left. We made it home safely around 4:15pm.
No sooner than we arrived home, we disconnected the camper from the truck and headed to a Christmas Tree Farm in SC, to purchase a Christmas Tree.
