Beth Ann and I had been very busy lately and we needed to get away for a weekend. We searched online and found numerous campsites available at Fort McAllister. We reserved a site for the weekend.
We left work Friday and arrived at Fort McAllister around 6pm. Since we arrived after 5pm, we had to register with the camp host. We searched for a desirable campsite and finally set up our camper on Site #52. It was easy to park our camper since most of the RV sites at this park are spacious "pull-thrus."

We ate "low country boil" Friday evening. Later, we watched the Presidential debate on TV. Around 11pm we went to bed. Unfortunately for a number of campers, (including us,) someone in the tent camping area was using a high-intensity worklight for a night-lite. This light was visible throughout most of the campground. We found out later that this was a "anti-monster defense system" for a very young camper.
I woke up at 6am Saturday morning. Unable to go back to sleep, I got dressed. Beth Ann wanted to sleep-in so, I began walking around the state park. I saw a beautiful sunrise over the river. I also saw deer, a raccoon, squirrels, and a variety of birds.

I walked all around the campground. I then walked a long 1.3 miles to the picnic area and park office, then back to the campground and our camper. Beth Ann had awakened, and around 9:30am, she prepared a breakfast casserole. It was delicious.
Later we explored the Keller and Kilkenny areas. We then went to a antique store, a hardware store, and Publix in Richmond Hill. We returned to the campground and had pizza and finger foods for supper. After supper, we were sitting outside, and decided to light up a campfire.

Around 11:30pm, the fire had dimminished, so we went inside to retire for the evening.
Sunday morning, we ate breakfast at Sunshine Restaurant. We went back to the camper to relax. After noon, we began packing-up to go home.

We made it home around 4pm, and backed the camper into the driveway.
When we camped at Fort McAllister in March 2005, swarms of gnats made that camping trip absolutely miserable. After 3 years, we gave this campground another chance, and we are glad we did. Without the gnats, Fort McAllister State Park is truly a nice campground.
