I-80 Business LoopCalifornia Sacramento, CAI-80 West Sacramento, CAI-80 California Sacramento, CA 14 I-5 FULL HIGHWAY LENGTH: The I-80 Business Loop in Sacramento, CA passes through Downtown Sacramento while I-80 passes Sacramento on the north and west sides. This alignment was designated as I-80 until the bypass was completed at which time the I-80 designation was moved to the downtown bypass and this alignment was designated as a Business Loop. The reason for the designation switch? Parts of this alignment north of the American River crossing are not up to Interstate standards while the bypass is. On the east end, the I-80 Business Loop connects to I-80 northeast of Sacramento near McClellan Air Force Base. On the west end, the I-80 Business Loop connects to I-80 in West Sacramento, CA east of the flood bypass crossing. IN CALIFORNIA STATE: The I-80 Business Loop has an unsigned designation of I-305 from its west end to the American River crossing. Caltrans (the California DOT) is slowly adding exit numbers to the freeway exits on all of California's freeways. The numbering is mileage based. There are some situations where, for the same crossing roadway, the eastbound exit number may be different from the westbound one. Be sure to account for this when getting or giving directions. Although the exit numbers are based on mileage through the entire state, the mileposts are still based on mileage through each county. These county-based mile posts are shown on this strip chart for each exit. The I-80 Business Loop follows ramps through the interchange at Exit 6 (US-50 / CA-99). All 3 highway designations follow the west mainline into this interchange. US-50 follows the east/west mainline through the interchange. CA-99 follows ramps to/from the south on the north/south mainline. I-80 BUS follows ramps to/from the north on the north/south mainline. None of the designations follow the north/south mainline all the way through the interchange. The I-80 Business Loop has an HOV lane in each direction (the left lane) from Exit 6 (US-50 / CA-99) to Exit 7 (E St). These are a continuation of the HOV lanes coming in from the south on CA-99. They follow the north/south mainline through the interchange where CA-99 follows ramps to/from the west and I-80 BUS joins via ramps to/from the west. CA-16 joins I-80 BUS at the I-5 exit 4 and continues until it turns off at the US-50 exit 6. It continues on I-5 North to exit 541 and US-50 East to exit 9 where it leaves all other highways.
