Winners of the first annual Massachusetts Book Awards were announced in a ceremony at the Boston Public Library on November 2, 2001. Awards were made in five categories: Fiction, Nonfiction, Poetry, Children's Literature and Children's Picture Books. To be eligible for the awards, books must have been published in their original format in the previous calendar year. They must have been written or illustrated by a Massachusetts resident OR have been based on a theme of partricular significance to the Commonwealth. The 2001 Massachusetts Book Award for Children's Picture Books follows.
