Banks Peninsula Track (BPT) is a 2 or 4 day option on private farmland.  I had to tramp in 3 days.  The 1st day you tramp 4-6 hours from Onuku Hut to Flea Bay.  You tramp through grazeland uphill to the Trig GG, which is the highest point on the Banks Peninsula at 699m (2293 ft). Downhill takes you through forest, rainforest and back to farmland to Flea Bay Hut.  Flea Bay is also home to the White-fin Blue Penguin.  They were in the nesting season and taking care of their eggs.

The 2nd day is a 2-4 hour tramp to Stony Bay.  This day takes you along the cliffs and the coast line of the Banks Penisula.  Stony Bay is one of the most beautiful places I've ever visited and did not want to leave.  It even has an old claw-foot bathtub you fill with water over a fire pit.  This gives you a hot tub under the stars. Nothing like it.

Third day is a 2 hour hike to Ontanerito Bay, tramping along the coast line.  From there you head inland through forest up to Purple Peak(646m or 2119 ft) and downhill into Akaroa. The Ontanerito Bay-Akaroa leg takes another 3-5 hours to complete.
