Dear Friends,
Whenever I tell people I work at the Anxiety Control Center, the usual comment I hear is, "We can really use your help." So it's obvious that stress and anxiety is familiar to most people.
When I mention that I am a Board Certified Hypnotist, the responses get really interesting. Invariably, someone will ask if I can make them bark like a dog or do something they don't want to.
Hypnosis has been around for centuries; many times it has been surrounded by mystery. My goal for this book, "CALM, COMFORT... YOURS FOR THE ASKING", is to take the mystery out of hypnosis by giving specific and understandable directions for using hypnotic techniques.
One of the best explanations I've heard for Ericksonian Hypnosis, which is what I practice at the Anxiety Control Center, came directly from a client. She was relating to a friend, her experience with Ericksonian Hypnosis and how an emotionally painful event was transformed into one that no longer sparked any reaction. She went on the explain that the best part of this type of hypnosis was that she was aware the entire time. In Ericksonian Hypnosis, you need to be aware so you can make the change in yourself.
Most people experience the hypnotic state in their every day lives, for it is a naturally occurring state. Awhile back when I lived in New York, I would take the train to work everyday. Many times I would fall asleep and then be amazed when I would wake up one stop before I would have to get off the train. What I didn't know then was that this was a sort of hypnotic state, where my unconscious mind was taking care of things while my conscious mind was in a sleepy state.
You can use this information to develop yourself into the person you want to be, increase your choices in life, and remove self-imposed limitations. My hypnotic advice to you is to be eager to discover how you'll change comfortable in the coming weeks after using these techniques.
Wishing you well,
Audrey Sussman, LCSW, NBCCH, CSL
