   The year is 1913. The site San Francisco, California. People from all over the world were flocking to San Francisco for the Pan American Expo. In preparation for the expo, a Palace was built to house the exhibits. The Palace was called the Palace of Fine Arts. It was meant to mirror ancient Greek architecture and to give a feeling of achievement and prosperity. However, the palace was not meant to last. It was intended to be torn down right after the fair. After all, it was built right on the Marina. The property was far to valuable for a showy palace.

   But for our benefit (I do not know the story) a small portion of the Palace was preserved. A horse shoe shaped building, a dome and several Corinthian columns. So we to can marvel at the design and the detail put into this exhibit. Most of it has been reinforced and retrofitted, after all, the original ornamentation was only plaster.
