The first time I only visited Paleokastritsa's bay. I was mesmerized by my first experience with the crisp blue waters of the Ionian Sea. I fell for the scenic bay. On my second trip to Paleokastritsa, I explored the region more. True, the main reason why I returned was I was bewitched by Paleokastritsa bay, however I am glad I returned to get to know the area better. On my first trip I missed the the Paleokastritsa monastery. It is a cute little monastery near the bay with. I also took time to follow some of the donkey trails. These trails go through olive orchards filled with choruses of grasshoppers. Every once in a while the trees break away for awesome views of the bay and the Ionian Sea.

     I have no idea how the region got its name. Paleo does mean old. Perhaps Kastritsi is a corruption of the word castle. I hope you enjoy my photos. Any comments, please E-mail me, .
