Kastleruth (Castillio in Italian) is a nice resort in the Italian Dolomites.
It has a commanding view of the local mountain and several nice places to eat and drink beer. I really enjoyed this town as my gateway into hiking this beautiful portion of the
Italian alps.
Though this town is in Italy, it was part of Austria for a few centuries and the locals speak to you first in German and then in Italian. (Or in my case, then in English).
In I think 1908 Frans Joseph, Emperor of the Austrian Empire, came to visit the town and the town put up a structure on its hillside to commemorate his visit.
