St. Maria de Fiore
(Florence)

The Duomo is Florence's Gothic Cathedral. Though not the most beautiful cathedral, it has the the third largest dome (behind St. Peters and Notre Dame) Its dome is what inspired the dome of St. Peter's in Rome. Though it is named St. Maria de Fiore everyone calls it the Duomo.(Which means dome in Italian)
The Baptistery (center) is located in a court yard behind the Duomo. It has two very famous bronze doors designed by Ghiberti. Ghiberti used the laws of mathematics to create three dimensional effects on a two dimensional surface. Copies of these doors can be seen in Grace Cathedral in San Francisco (Ride to California St. Cable Car to the top and your there). Lastly the tower gives you an inspiring view of the city and the dome as well. Plus a good workout climbing 400 plus steps to the top.

Other than it's size, it doesn't have much to offer (Which is surprising since it is in the birth place of the renaissance). However, its another good example of Gothic architecture as well as a marvel to look at its size.
