Verona is immortalized in Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliette. As a result, thousands of
tourists go there each year just because it was the fabled city of Romeo and Juliette. As a result on my first two trips
through Italy I had no interest of going there. However, I heard good things about Verona. I heard that Verona contains
a nice medieval center and a great Roman coliseum where you can see live plays and concerts. In fact the coliseum was the third largest in the Roman world. I learned that Verona was where Dante spent his last years and that Verona was a prosperous city in its own right. Therefore, on my third trip to Italy, where I was exploring the North, I decided to stop in Verona and see the city for myself. I am very glad that I did. I had enjoyed my stay in Verona. Though there were the throngs on tourists climbing Juliette's balcony, I also found nice piazzas to people watch in. While there were people who thought they could gain luck in love by rubbing Juliette's statue, I enjoyed wandering the town (except for the cars) and looking at the old buildings. All in all, I am very glad to have taken time to visit Verona. Therefore, if you are going from Milan (Milano) to Venice, or the Dolomites I recommend you take a stop over in Verona (even as a brief 2 or 3 hour stop over).
