Tavira is a small town on the southern coast of Portuga. The area is commonly known as the Algarve. Even though most of the Algarve has become one of Europe’s more popular getaway’s with sandy beaches and “warm” water Tavira has escaped much of this because of its lack of a real beach. Thus it has retained a lot of its small town charm. In fact it reminded me a lot of small fishing towns in Greece.

     Tavira is quite an attractive and peaceful town. The center of town straddles a river and has an attractive park that’s great for spending a relaxing afternoon people watching As you spread out you find mural filled churches hidden between classical Mediterranean style houses. On the top of the “hill” you find the ruins of a Moorish castle with a beautiful garden inside and a spectacular view from above. All this makes for an extremely peaceful setting and a nice break from the “must see” sites of Portugal and Spain. I hope you enjoy the photos. Any comments, please E-mail me, .
