The Baixa is a relatively young part of the city though located in the center of the city. That is because it was completely destroyed by an earthquake in 1755. The resulting rebuilding was done in a fairly uniform way giving you a nice grid work of streets. Though this may appear unattractive, there are attractive little squares and pedestrian areas mixed in to all of this. Therefore I thought I would include a section of photos from this area.
