Character: The Burger King
From: Burger King's 2004-2006 commercials
Completed: Fall 2005
Status: Commissioned
remember these commercials? scary, right? i think the marketing company behind this ploy actually planned on giving a generation nightmares..
either way, my friend, mainly because of the ability to use the "wake up with the king" line to hit on the ladies, commissioned this. i thought it was a beyond brilliant idea, and also relatively easy in terms of fit, since i'd never made a man's costume before.
::the mask::
he ordered this off of bkmasks.net about six months prior to my finishing the costume. one day, if i ever acquire the skills, i'll make the full head mask, but i doubt i'll ever become that much of a casting goddess.
::the jacket and dress::
i used white monster fur for extra pouf in the collar, and a off white cotton/rayon blend for the sleeve and chest ruffles. the dress (and coordinating sleeves on the jacket) are a heavy broadcade found, suprisingly, from a curtain. i never could find any comprable material anywhere else.
the reddish fabric is actually really beautiful up close. it's a slightly metallic/iridescent deep red with embroidered golden crosses. it's really lush and not precisely correct, but i fell in love with the price and the look.
as for the underdress, i had all intentions of making this a tri-layered dress, but i ended up adding faux layers at the bottom. one is a cris-cross pattern pintuck, and the other is a matte off-white acetate. all trims are red velvet ribbon. and, everything, including the jacket with it's additional pockets, is lined in deep red satin.
::the medallion::
my 'method' was used, plus a double layer of upholstery cording. however, because the piece was not cared for by my friend, it had to be remade.
the second time around, i created a sculpey model with an exact replica of the logo, created a latez mold, and then casted it in alumilite resin. the cast was painted and antiqued.
