Character: Lady Deathstrike
From: X2: X-men United
Completed: For the May 2006 premiere of X3
Status: Retired. Big time.
I was very excited about X3 coming out and we were supposed to have some sort of promotional event going on, so i picked a villanesse. finally.
i had wanted to do rogue, but, hey...this was more fun. and sweaty.
it's a shame the pants are now torn, and it's nearly impossible to get a good picture of this costume, because it was pretty awesome...
::the jacket::
using the leftover pleathery-snakeskin printed fabric from my yuuko, i made a jacket with a raised solid matte pleather collar. you can't see it in pics, but it had a lift of about three inches. whee!
::the corset::
it's my Helga one. yep...before i had my corset nervous breakdown...i'm glad i at least finished it, though. it's pretty sweet. matte black pleather with silver x-large grommets. and it fits me like a glove. to make the side, quilted-looking panels, i did just that...
i quilted the pleathery snakeskin in an arc shape and attached them. suprisingly it wasn't that hard and didn't take too long. also, i got to use some of the excess batting from when i attempted to stuff the arm of my sofa.
don't ask.
::the pants::
i'm too cheap and too big to find normal, premade pleather pants to fit me, so i found a pair for about two bucks at the thrift store and added side inserts of more of the black matte evil upholstery pleather to get a custom fit.
had the darn things not started seperating layers and tearing at the crotch (apparently it was a very old pair of pants to begin with. my bad.), i would have worn this again and put the proper corset lacings up the sides of the legs. oh well.
::the nails::
last but not least...these were fun. sort of. i'll give a hint as to the base components..
wood dowels and something you play a appalachian instrument with. yep. i shall say no more.
they're pretty awesome looking, up close, and fit really well. i may end up selling these bad boys.
