Sound
Design
This is the
first step in creating audio environments in both music and virtual
realities. A sound can be as simple as a pop, or it can be as complex
as a musical phrase. There are really no rules, and so there is
great freedom to use any and every means around to create sounds.
From watermelons to digital audio, samplers to synthesizers, everything
is used to get that particular sound. Whatever the final use of
the sounds, be it video games or music, ads or software, each is
a unique experience. Our recent projects include Playstation games
by Shaba Games and Sony
Computer Entertainment America.
Sound
Engineering
For the past
ten years, Lorien Ferris has been engineering both live and studio
sound systems for electronic music. It all started with the formation
of his own studio in 1990 which was accompanied by the production
of house parties at a UC Berkeley co-op. After graduation a burgeoning
techno music scene in San Francisco beckoned to Lorien and he joined
the Pacific Sound System as their sound engineer. Since then, Pacific
Sound has produced hundreds of electronic music dance parties in
numerous venues both indoor and out, on land and sea, drawing thousands
of rhythmic revelers. Lorien contended with adverse conditions and
faulty equipment many times, but always the party went on. During
this time Lorien built his studio into a fully functional MIDI and
digital audio production suite including synthesizers, samplers,
effects, mixing, tape recording, and a computer audio recording
and sequencing system.
