I ask you, Governor Strickland, to stop your state's execution of Jason Getsy. Mr. Wilson is scheduled to be poisoned by the government of Ohio next Tuesday, 08/18/09, for the 1995 contract murder of Ann Serafino over business dealings.
Jason Getsy, 19 years old at the time, participated in this crime because he thought his co-defendant would shoot him if he didn’t. Your own state’s parole review commission recommended that you commute Mr. Getsy’s sentence to life in prison. His co-defendant, the one who threatened Mr. Getsy’s life, got life in prison, leading to the parole board’s recommendation. Governor Strickland, in the name of equal justice you must cancel the execution of Jason Getsy.
Former
Attorney General of the United States Janet Reno, as well as myriads of
scholars, can find no evidence that the death penalty deters capital
crimes. In fact, the warden of the famous Sing Sing prison believes that
the death penalty exacerbates the violence in his facility by setting an
example of cold-blooded killing. Recent studies show that the largest
increase in capital crimes is in the state of Texas, the state which
executes the most people. As for vengeance, that is the Lord's, not the
government’s.
Please, Governor Strickland, stop this killing of Jason Getsy. If this
execution goes forward, look around this country for the black armbands
worn, and the church bells tolled, in protest of this injustice.
Thank you.

I ask you, Governor Crist, to you stop your state's execution of John Marek. Mr. Marek is scheduled to be poisoned by the state of Florida next Tuesday, 08/18/09, for the 1983 murder of Adella Marie Simmons.
John Marek was convicted of a brutal crime. His companion and accomplice in the crime received a life sentence, yet Mr. Marek got death, highlighting the inequalities of Florida’s justice system. More importantly the facts of the crime indicate an out-of-control rage which defies the scope of human action. It is clear that John Marek was not responsible for his behavior on that tragic night, and therefore not culpable in the results. John Marek needs treatment, not killing! Governor Crist, on legal and humanitarian grounds you must stop this execution!

I ask you, Governor Perry, to stop your state's execution of David Wood. Mr. Wood is scheduled to be poisoned by the government of Texas next Thursday, 08/20/09, for the 1987 murder of Ivy Susanna Williams. He is suspected in seven other murders.
David Wood has not yet received his constitutionally guaranteed fair trial. Prosecutors bribed two cell mates to testify against Mr. Wood, giving one of them a $25,000 reward and dropping a murder charge against another in exchange for their testimony against Mr. Wood. Detectives in the case failed to follow up on two solid leads pointing away from David Wood. An eye witness had seen someone else burying a body very near where the victim’s body was found. Also, local law enforcement had multiple reports of a sex-and-murder ring that did not include Mr. Wood operating in the area where the victim’s and several other bodies were found. It’s clear that Texas law enforcement got lazy, latching on to David Wood and putting on blinders to any other possible perpetrators. Governor Perry, you must request a stay to allow time for justice to prevail in the case of David L. Wood.
