"Texorami was a wide open port city, with sultry days and long nights, lots of good music, gambling around the clock, duels every morning and in-between mayhem for those who couldn't wait. And the air currents were fabulous."
- Random, Sign of the Unicorn

"Red Hot" Ryerson

First thing is--- he wears all "red" duds. Hat with a silver coin band, silk vest, kid gloves, and crimson alligator boots. Ryerson claims that his clothes don't show blood, and never get stolen. Most folks wouldn't be caught dead in his clothes—so he may be right.

Lean body, scrawny angled face, sharp blue eyes. Not a tall fella-- maybe five and a half feet. Blonde hair, those blue eyes and an easy smile are the things you notice about this hombre if you're a gal.

Age hard to figure. May be the twenty-five he claims-- or folks that say he's been around Texorami since Slippery Sal was a bar-girl may be loco.

Doesn't get into fights, not yellow, just good at leaving a place afor things get 'touchy'.

Has no one place he hangs his hat-- often holes up in Slippery Sal's for weeks after a big score. Right now, has a small room at the 'Stratford Casino and All-Night Ruckus'. Plays a mean game of cards. Likes to gamble in more ways than one.

2 (likes)     Miz Nora 'Nosey' Parker – a well-oiled gal of 'Slippery Sal's Hothouse'
Twenty-two yr old Nora is trying to get Ryerson to 'settle down' after 'one big score'. Nosey and Ryerson are in a 'Texorami-standoff' now about both their career choices. Their bodies go together like fire and petrol. Nora is a blonde-knockout with a passing resemblance to Queen Paulette. Random and Ryerson met through Nora at 'Slippery Sal's'.
Sal's is a bath and sauna place with meals, rooms, and stylish 'horizontal dance lessons'.

2 (likes)     Missus Sarah B. Kodiak – widow lawyer in practice 'Books, Books, & Deals'
Thirty-five yr old Missus Sarah is the older woman with sense about everything but Ryerson. She has managed to get Ryerson out of the drunk tank one or two times. OK, maybe three or four. Takes horizontal dance lessons a couple times a month.

2 (likes)     Miz Tonga Papas – captain, riverboat 'Liberation Belle'
Twenty-eight yr old Tonga admires Ryerson for purely selfish reasons having to do with horizontal dance lessons every couple of months. She smuggles liquor, too, and Ryerson has helped her out more than a few times with a "show of force".

2 (likes)     Granny Mitchum – half plains-native, half settler.
Granny runs a secret farm for hemp and smoke-grass. Fair product, good sense, likes rascals like Ryerson. Granny's age is unknown, but a good guess might be over fifty. Ageless as only some of the plains-natives can be.

1 (useful)     Miz Bally DuTiennes – chief cook of 'Slippery Sal's Hothouse'
Thirty-three yr old Bally is trying to fatten Ryerson up for some nefarious reason.

1 (useful)     Miz Slippery Sal – owner of 'Slippery Sal's Hothouse'
Forty-three yr old Sal is well disposed to Ryerson when he keeps his account current.

GM ONLY:
Your character should be able to answer the following questions:
Who are you?
Ryerson is a seventh son of a very wealthy Eastern merchant family and has drifted the West for a few years since getting kicked out of Hah Hah Vard University for setting fire to the Dean's House in a quick escape from his wife's bed chambers.
Just before Texorami, Ryerson killed a Chin Night Tiger who broke into the governor's mansion to assassinate the Northern Territorial Governor—but discovered Ryerson in bed with the governor's wife.
Bad things seem to follow Ryerson, but never quite 'nail him'.
Or maybe he's just around when bad things happen to other people.

What do you want?
Ryerson thinks that he is a bad penny. He'd like to find a shaman that would un-hex him. He'd admit this to few, so his search is not going too well.

Why are you here?
Ryerson is wanted for questioning or major mis-understandings in several Territories. He has killed only eleven men—all in self-defense. Texorami laws are completely indifferent to his past, and he has a few friends that he trusts here.

What do you have that is worth living for?
Ryerson has an idea that all his troubles will straighten out if he finds the right 'place' or 'people' to share things with. He'd like a family, but not at the cost of showering them with his 'luck' or 'past'.
The idea of proving himself is worth living for.

Who do you serve?
Ryerson serves no one, not even himself. He is an unformed man. In some ways, he is a catalyst himself. Moving into other's lives and changing things as if destiny had no meaning.

Who do you trust?
Ryerson trusts himself and anyone who can look him in the eye and say, "Sure. What the hell, it's crazy but let's go for it."
