A former stagecoach driver-turned-professional gambler who puts his faith in his lucky deck. Jack is always on the lookout for a new business opportunity. Jack stands 6' 1", weighs about 210 pounds, and has short dark hair and a broad smile. He tends to wear a dark three-piece suits, string ties, a gold pocket watch on a chain, and a stetson hat. Jack has no doubt played cards with just about the entire group, and maybe even been partners in various (ad)ventures.
Eugen MarshEugen is from Back East. Early on in his life he became involved with a great Fossil Hunter, Charles Othniel.(He was a pilot and used his direction sense and knowledge of the lay of the land to become Othniel’s guide.) Several years ago, Eugen traveled to Texorami to seek his fortune in a New World, and to convince Othniel that there was more to find here. Locally, he has been involved in three explorations, two archeological expeditions and numerous hunting trips. This is in addition to numerous fossil hunts and safaris in other exotic locations. He has been forced to become an experienced duelist. He prefers not to pick fights, but when he must, he tries to goad the opponent into challenging him to give Eugen the choice of weapon. Usually, he chooses the western draw-style duel, but sometimes he has chosen machete. He is a fair poker player, but rarely is he at the premier table. He is much better at Black Jack and Craps, where you don’t have to play your opponent. He made the final table at the yearly championship once. He is a lousy musician, but Random insists on trying to teach him bongos.
Reverend 'Sin' Jediah Ishmael JacksonA goodly tall man a finger's width over six feet, the Reverend has fallen on hard times. Wearing threadbare black preacher clothes, including the collar of the Lord, he stands tall, though his average frame is pared down from full strength by his lack of regular meals. A black man of the Deep South Territory, this Baptist reverend is being tested by the Lord in Texorami. Townfolk who don't know his story call him Reverend 'Sin'. In a time some years ago, the Reverend was a married man with a large flock and a tall white-painted church. These things are gone now. Gone like the church's roof fund, gone like his wife, as gone as the days when contentment was the Reverand's constant companion. Gambling. The Reverend is a holy terror at the tables. Once he starts a streak, he can't stop until the money is gone.
Miz Purity LaideA beautiful gambler, socialite and con artist. She's a femme fatale of the finest kind and a woman whose past is almost as mysterious as Random's.
'Red Hot' Ryerson
First thing is-- he wears all "red" duds. Hat with a silver coin band, silk vest, kid gloves, and crimson alligator boots. Ryerson claims that his clothes don't show blood, and never get stolen. Most folks wouldn't be caught dead in his clothes—- so he may be right. A poker player Ryerson has many 'regular spots' where he games purtty regular. He hangs at 'Slippery Sal's Hothouse' and the 'Stratford Casino and All-Night Ruckus'. Ryerson is a bit flamboyant-- but his luck takes 'large' swings up and down. Red tries to make Sunday preaching at 'Slippery Sal's' where he knows most of the ladies.
He's tall, slim, and constantly puffing on the finest cigar he can currently afford. His wide lips and mouth are highly expressive, and quick to laugh, but his eyes can pin you to the back of the canyon, and make you feel like there's no where you could possibly run. Mitch does two things well. He spends lots of money, and he kills people. Everything else is a desert mirage as far as he's concerned. He lives life on the edge, knowing that at any moment a bullet could blow his brains across the room. Of course he's done it enough to others to know that you never hear the one that gets you, so he intends the last thing on his mind to be the tastes of a good cigar, a fine port, and a sassy girl's lips on his tongue. A winning hand would be nice too, but he'll settle for the thrill of matching his cojones against other high-rollers. Might as well spend it today, 'cause no one knows if you'll be around tomorrow.
Caleb the UndertakerThe Undertaker. The names Caleb and I guess I'm not the type a man like Random would usually hang out with, I don't drink, can't play poker worth a spit, and can barely ride my horse. But I sure can shoot straight, and I guess that's how I fell in with Random and therefore the rest of you. Maybe I saved Random or he saved me I can scarcely remember and it doesn't really matter anymore. Looking at me dressed all in black in my three piece suit with my black leather duster and bowler hat y'all might think I was the local undertaker and you'd be right, so although I may look like a pansy with the little round glasses and my hair cut short and kept neat~remember, I know where to hide the bodies.
A voluptuous, blond curly hair singer ( think Marilyn Monroe) she showed up in Texaromi two years ago, very young but very talented. Rumors have it that Random got her her current job as a lounge singer in the Gold Mine Casino. She is charming, and sweet and sensuous and if you have a problem and need someone to listen, she's all there. She also loves a good party and has been known to throw her own punches in a bar fight. Her explanation - three older brothers and a daddy so mean that the devil threw him back up to earth.
Daniel Howethorne
A Gambler and a player of fine jazz bass, Daniel is a Texorami native, born and bred. After his mother died in his teens, he traveled a fair bit. This was back when he and Random used to run together. They'd come back from those expeditions with light hearts and heavy purses. Daniel owns a jazz club, nowadays, where the tables are known to be fair and the atmosphere is a little more refined than at the saloon. He wears a very ugly pair of guns, more modern than typically seen in Texorami. It is a point of pride for him to never have to draw them. As far as anyone knows, he never has drawn them and not put someone in their grave, a situation that prevents a lot of shots from ever being fired. With light auburn hair, greyblue eyes, and light complexion Daniel looks, in fact, very similar to his sometime friend and colleague in crime, Random. Folks who were in Texorami last year know that there was some problem between him and Random over Daniel's girl, Genevieve. Some folks know more than that.
Obadiah is a tall (6'2"), gaunt man who appears to be in his late 40s or early 50s. He has a full but neatly trimmed beard, streaked with grey, and long black hair pulled back into a braid. He's also greying at the temples. A thin scar, as from a grazing bullet, cuts across his left cheek. He has long, wiry fingers that are never far from his ornate, oddly arabesque revolver on the one hand and his pouch of magical tools on the other. His voice is a deep baritone. He isn't quite as fast as he used to be, but he's at the peak of his magical prowess...and his skill with the guitar. He's always impeccably dressed: vest, pocketwatch, coat, shined boots, and a flat-topped, round black hat. The scent of his magical herbs clings faintly to his clothing. Nonetheless, it's his mismatched eyes that usually attract the most attention....
HankHank (Henry only to his few living enemies) is a weathered man of medium height, with craggy features and skin that's been blasted by sand and sun, leaving him with rugged looks that appeal to some folks, and just look worn to others. He's got a mop of black hair that he keeps trimmed enough to stay out of his eyes, and stays clean shaven as well. He wears better clothing than some might expect, stuff that wears well. Those boots might be old, but they're in fine condition and will be maintained that way. He tends toward blue and grey.
Cort(ney) SutherlandThe Blue Snake was the kinda place that made regulars of the few brave souls who dared step through her doors. The drinks where true, the tables level, and the music soft, sultry, blue, and hot. It was also the kinda place that brought trouble in leaps and bounds. That's where I come in my job is to make sure that trouble keeps to hops and skips. Names Cort, Cort Sutherland, currently bouncer, at other times gambler, outlaw, bounty hunter, raggedy man, but always a music maker. I'm not the only bouncer, just the only one that Maggie Garret can fully trust. I owe her, and owe her big, that's why I stay on, that and the chance that one day he might walk back in here, then I can kill him. I can wait, that's one thing I am good at, and there are worse places and worse things than waiting in a nice place like the Blue Snake.
GloriaJazz singer with a shady past.
A doctor, a wanderer, a gambler, Jonas stumbled into Texorami a year or so ago and didn't quite leave ever since. Holding a general practice MD, he's proven to have an interest in odd and esoteric quests for "medical knowledge" and has also proven to be a fiend at gambling tables. He can't refuse a game of poker, unless he truly doesn't have the stake. And even then, he has been known to plunge into a game by selling a ring or knives and the like to get in, and to try and win them back. He considers such games "Medicine for an overly heavy purse" Jonas is 5'11" tall, thin, almost in a tuberculosis sort of manner. John will claim that it came from a bout of malaria when he visited "the jungle". He is pale-skinned, black hair cut short. He typically dresses in a long black coat, white shirt, and dark trousers and usually wears a dark hat.
Guenevere BlackhawkGuen wandered into Texorami several years ago in a coat, hat and gun belt all too big for her and with not much else except the horse she rode in on. Only 18 at the time, she quickly proved that while all of her possessions might be hand-me-downs, she knew how to use the guns and wasn't afraid to do so. She's grown into the coat and hat a bit, the belt fits a little better, and despite wins at the poker table and a few lucrative bounties, she doesn't replace them. Rumors peg the tawny skinned young woman as being the daughter of the legendary Samuel Blackhawk, gunslinger and one time sheriff who may or may not be dead depending on which tall tale you believe. Rumors also say she talks to the dead. Guen's a little taller than average, with a lithe muscular build, dark stormy blue eyes and black hair kept in a single tidy braid down to the small of her back. She has been seen now and again in Random's company and recently at the tables with the good Dr. Asherton.
Robert 'Bluesman' BrownRobert Brown is a long drink of water, a sunweathered, windburnt man with prison tattoos on his scar-knuckled hand that are most visible when he plays the guitar, Black Betty, that is his constant companion and apparently his sole means of support. The bluesman wears a pistol strapped over his worn-out blue jeans, and it's said that nobody's ever asked him to play a song he didn't know. He's quiet and haggard and seems to come and go as he pleases, following the migrations of birds or the call of the road... or maybe the gigs, wherever they take him. His hair is bound in a dusty ponytail the same color as his fringed suede jacket, and he's more likely to smile than speak. But when he sings....
ReneLike Random, Rene is a drummer. She has long black hair which she often holds back with a bandanna. Rene has violet eyes. She has the body of a gymnast , however, she stands at about 5'8". Rene dresses like a man most of the time. Rene drinks hard liquor and loves to play cards in her spare time. She is the ultimate guys girl. Rene is a good person overall but she has a temper and a sharp tongue when crossed. She used to be a lover of Random's but they had a mild falling out and are now just friends. The band Rene plays with is the Dead Coyote's.
MongoEveryone knows Mongo. Even Mongo knows Mongo. Mongo even knows alphabet.
With the help of just about everyone in town, plus some newcomers like Mongo and Robert, Daniel won the poker tournament at the Crossroads, and we all know what kind of stakes ride there. Looks like Texorami gets to keep its soul, and Daniel is now its caretaker. And, in more lighthearted news, Genevieves divorce papers came through, so she and Daniel are free to marry, a thing they plan to take care of as soon as the preacher sobers up.
