Biography

Yasuro Kawata was born in Kobe, Japan, in mid 60s. Kobe is in western part of Japan, a little west of Osaka. Incidentally, Kobe is a sister city of Seattle's, and two cities have a similar atomosphere. That is one of the reasons why he currrently resides in Seattle.

You may also remember Kobe from the big earthquake which hit there in 1995. It was such a tragic event — thousands of people were killed. Luckily, Yasuro was not there then, because he was living in Tokyo at that time (see below).

After graduating high school, he entered college in Tokyo. That is when he moved there from Kobe. After obtaining a master's degree in computer science, he worked for a graduate school of a national university in Tokyo for seven years. During that time, he also obtained a Ph.D. degree in computer science. He then was awarded a two-year sponsorship from a foundation in Japan, with which he came to the USA as a visiting researcher. He first went to Pittsburgh but then moved to Seattle.

His health, however, was failing for unknown reasons, and he developed symptoms similar to those of chronic fatigue syndrome. It came to a point where it was painfully obvious that he could not work any longer. He was at a total loss what to do with his life.

That is when he met a local psychic, who magically saw his potential as artist, and suggested he give it a try. This threw him off, but without any other good alternatives, he decided to take her advice.

He was very skeptical at first, but after getting some formal education in fine arts for the first time in his life, he is now happy that he took her advice. He realized the joy of expressing himself in the art form.

He was, however, hesitant to share his pieces with others for a long time; but the psychic later convinced him to do so, saying his talents are a gift, and that he has to share it with the rest of the world.

He does other kinds of arts too: He is learning classical singing, and also martial arts.
