Female Figure Models Wanted

Yasuro is currently looking for female volunteer models who will donate their time and energy to pose for him, so that he can create a series of figure based pieces.

Before we go on, let us get rid of one popular misconception: No, you do not have to have a build of those photo models on fashion magazines, or those on the America's Next Top Model TV show. A few extra pounds are just fine. Being skinny? That's also fine.

Even though there is no denying that well-balanced, proportional physique is always welcomed, it is only a preferred quality, not a must. We are talking about paintings here, not photos -- they are two different animals! Fine artists are more lenient, as it were, than photographers, partially because we can manipulate images a lot more easily than photographers can. Besides, it is highly debetable if Tyra Banks can make a good figure model.

Now that we've got it out of the way....

What matters here is the idea of partnership; You and Yasuro will be partners in creating art. You will enjoy the process as much as he will. You will also be happy when you see him capture your inner beauty, which possibly you yourself were not quite aware of, and fixate it in a permanent, tangible form.

It should be regarded as volunteer work on principle, but some kind of reward could be arranged on the individual basis. One thing is for sure, though -- if becoming a professional figure model is an option for your future, you will be able to use this opportunity to build your portfolio. We would be happy to promote you through this website as well. (Insist on getting paid? This might help.)

He prefers to work from photographs that he sets up and shoots specifically for this project. This is primarily to save the time of the models. Such being the case, if the models prefer otherwise (maybe so as not to leave any photographs), he will be happy to work from life. All this will be done at his home studio.

What he is after is female figures in classical themes, rendered in a classical way. His models are the works by Jean Léon Gérôme (French, 1824-1904) and those by William-Adolphe Bouguereau (French, 1825-1905).

These two contemporary artists are often labeled academic artist. In spite of their huge professional success in their time, sadly these days their works are not as widely known as those by Impressionists. Impressionism emerged as rebels agasint academic art in Gérôme and Bouguereau's time, and both of them were actively against it.

Among Gérôme's works are: Roman Slave Market, Slave Auction, Pygmalion and Galeta (one version), and Phryne before the Areopagus.

Among Bouguereau's works are: Birth of Venus, Nymphs and Satyr, and Evening Mood.

As you can see from the examples above, complete nudity is strongly preferred. He might be able to work with you still in the future even if nudity is an issue, but we have to give higher priorities to those who do not have problems with nudity.

If you are interested with working with Yasuro in this project, please send us email and tell us about:

  • your figure by stats, your own photos, photos of the pieces made with you as a model, etc.,
  • your prior experiences in posing (if any),
  • what you want to achieve by doing this, and,
  • your availability.

Please feel free to ask us questions, if you have any.

By the way, several models have already responded to this ad and have been working with Yasuro. We plan on showing profiles of these models and also showing how Yasuro is developing pieces with them. The image at the top of this page was made with one of them. It is a preliminary sketch for a soon-to-be-made piece called "Birth of Venus".
