About This WebsiteDesign PrincipleSome websites have a fancy look, with lots of graphics, possibly interactive ones made with Flash, and lots of gimmicks made possible with Javascript programs or even Java programs. We do not believe in such an idea. World-Wide Web was conceived as a means of information disemmination. Such being the case, we believe all the websites need to be designed with accessibility in mind. Assuming a particular kind of WWW browser or a particular kind of screen resolution could exclude viewers who do not fit into the assumption. Assigning a specific kind of typeface or a font size could inconvenience people who do not have that typeface, or those with weak eyesight. Use of script languages or plug-ins could prevent those with low-capacity computers (which include modern-day PDAs or cell phones) from seeing the screens as intended. We regard all these common practices bad from the accessibility point of view. We do use graphics. This is inevitable, though, considering the nature of this website. We also keep the use of Javascript scripts to where it is absolutely necessary. (No rollovers!) Authoring ToolsWe use Adobe Creative Suite extensively for the authoring and maintenance of this website: mostly Adobe GoLive, along with the usual Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. We used to edit all the HTML codes manually using a text editor since the conception of this website until the beginning of June 2004 . We used to use the combination of Meadow, a GNU Emacs variant for the Microsoft Windows platform, and the PSGML major mode for Emacs. The visual presentation, as opposed to the contents, is defined in a separate Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) file as much as possible. Different browsers have different indentation behaviors, which is a pain to deal with, but this page provided some useful information. Domain Name ManagementWe use 1 & 1 Internet Inc. to manage our domain. AuthorThis site was created and is maintained by Yasuro Kawata, the artist himself.
