Get a map | | Artist’s Statement I observe my surroundings from a point of view not always obvious to others. I find something attractive and interesting in almost everything I see. My personal collection of photographs reflects this eclectic vision of the beauty that is hidden among the mundane, the unattractive, the discarded, and the forgotten. Much of what I photograph is discovered along the very same path where many others travel. My goal is to capture imagination, solitude, inspiration, and preservation, while navigating urgency, chaos, consumption, and progress. |
| | Biography Al Knight holds a Bachelor of Science from The Ohio State University and a Master of Science from Purdue University. He was on the staff of Purdue University for nearly 30 years, holding the position since 1981 of Director of Training and Leadership Development. He retired from Purdue in May 2004. He still teaches part-time in Purdue’s College of Technology and is pursuing a second career in photography. Al and his wife Dianne reside in Lafayette, Indiana. | Beginnings Al Knight's interest in photography began at age 14 when his father purchased for him a Bolsey 35 mm camera as a Christmas present. The gift preceded a family trip to Florida where Al photographed the adventure. He still possesses early1955 images of the Key West Highway and the now historic seven-mile railroad bridge, the first Sunshine Skyway, Cypress Gardens, Fort Myers, Weeki Wachee Springs, and Daytona Beach. | | His first photographic shows were for his church, the local Grange, and school. Since then he has been hooked and exhibits in the Midwest. From that first all manual camera that provided marginal results at best, to early SLR cameras to the latest and most powerful digital photographic and printing equipment, Al is still looking for ways to improve his self-taught skills. Al and his wife travel extensively, having been in all 50 states, Canada, Mexico, the West Indies, England, Ireland, Scotland, Italy, Austria, Germany, Panama, Costa Rica and New Zealand. His photographic collection reflects many of these destinations. Visit Al on the web at www.aldisphotographicdesigns.com |
