I have been slowly stripping out parts that I don’t need. This past week I was trying to remove the gas that was left in the tank. I bought a siphon to drain the gas out. I did not know there was a screen down inside so the hose would not reach the tank. Bummers! Eventually I did find a drain plug at the bottom of the tank. I was guessing there was about a gallon maybe a little more left in the tank. I grabbed a two and a half gallon tank and started draining. Well my guess was wrong. There was probably about three gallons there. This resulted in my second spill of the project. I had to take a quote from Jimmy Buffett "Things never seem to work out the way I had them planned.” One rule of thumb that I have learned is always have a back up plan. I finished taking out the exhaust pipe and the muffler. That was an easy part. Now I thought this is great with everything out of the way I can easily drop the fuel tank. Then I double checked the manual. It said that I need to drop the whole rear end suspension sub-frame. Well, that was not as bad as I thought. I did finally end up dropping the suspension and removing the fuel tank. Now the fuel tank was out. I removed the fuel lines and the exhaust was all out. This car is pretty much "gasless" now. I have dropped off my transmission to Dave Cloud. He is going to create an adaptor plate to mount the electric motor to the transmission and make sure that the fly wheel is balanced on the motor. Next week we should be putting the transmission with the motor back in and checking to see what framework needs to be done to support the batteries. |
