working under the name velure, Steven Hanlon created trance, techno, and ambient music that was disjointed at best. asciibaron was created as a focused acid trance side project in the summer of 1997. after producing a limited release e.p. on asciibaron records (abcd-001), the velure name was abandoned completely in 1999. Steven felt velure's characteristic sound was not worth further exploration. all output after this release would be recorded under the asciibaron moniker.
focusing on the murky depths of delay and reverb, the asciibaron sound began to develop. influenced by richard h. kirk, plastikman, damon wild, and steve stoll, asciibaron's sound differed from the dancefloor epics of mainstream trance. feeling the dj was the center of attention, not the music or the artist, asciibaron shunned the hyperbole of the dj culture.
never publicly releasing a single track, the asciibaron project seemed doomed. in early 2003, asciibaron began work on a new e.p.- the inhalants - but a recent move put the project on hold until July of 2004. look for the new e.p. - the inhalants - and the return of deep acid trance in spring 2005.
