2007 Meeting Highlights:

  • The First annual meeting of ASGO was held on April 25th, 2007 at COSM in San Diego!
  • Highlighted by a panel of excellent speakers, the meeting was a great success and launched a new and relevant society in Otolaryngology

Program Chair, Karen Kost, M.D., prepared an outstanding program covering a diverse set of issues relevant to the Geriatric Otolaryngology patient.  Society president Jerry Goldstein, M.D. presided over the historic inaugural meeting.  Andrew Monjan, Ph.D., M.P.H delivered an insightful keynote address entitled Aging: Growing Healthy. Dr. Richard Goode was the guest of honor and spoke about research frontiers in surgical improvement of hearing.  Michael Johns, M.D. covered the diagnosis and management of the aging voice, and Greg Postma, M.D. articulated a practical approach to assessing geriatric dysphagia.  The importance of hearing loss in aging was addressed by David Eibling, M.D.  Dr. Joel Goebel offered clarity to the complex topic of dizziness in the geriatric patient, and Dr. Steve Cass summarized benign paroxysmal vertigo. The bylaws were approved at the business meeting as were the initial officers for the society.  Special thanks goes to Carol and David Eibling, as well as the American College of Surgeons, whose logistical efforts allowed the meeting to go without a hitch!
