Kasia Mary Quam

Monday, November 17, 2003
9:26 p.m.
7 pounds, 15 ounces
22 1/2 inches

Likes: sleeping, being held, eating, sitting in her lazy-baby chair, swiping at the rattles hanging from her Gymni, watching her mobile, and tooting.

Dislikes: Going to sleep at bedtime.

7/14/2004: This just cracks me up. I was holding Kasia and she was sort of mouthing my shoulder. She exhales and makes a loud, slow, wet-sounding raspberry against my skin. She pauses, then does it again. After the second time, she giggles. It would appear that she inherited her mother's weakness for potty humor.

7/9/2004: While eating dinner at the coffee table, I sat Kasia down near my feet with a few toys. In a few minutes, she pulled herself up to standing and stepped her way over to my dinner plate. What a strong girl!

7/8/2004: And she's mobile! Kasia's figured out how crawl. Albeit's very slow, ineffiecient, and she only goes backwards, she's able to get around.

7/4/2004: We have a tooth! There is just a tiny white ridge along her bottom gum, but it is still a tooth. I gave her a glass a water with her dinner tonight, and the little tooth was clicking against the glass.

6/17/2004: Kasia pulls herself up! I set her in her crib with a few toys and went downstairs to clean up. Within a few minutes, she begins and cry and Matt discovers her standing up in her crib!

5/23/2004: Kasia completed her first plane trip and had great fun visiting Bestafar and Bestamar in Dallas. The trip there was a bit rocky, but Kasia was a total propaganda baby for the trip back. She slept through the entire flight*, then smiled and entertained the passengers around us while we were waiting to disembark in Detroit.
* Kasia went the entire weekend without a BM, which caused a lot of worry about the flight back. As the plane was taxiing on the runway and just after we were cleared for take off, her weekend of constipation came to an end. I discovered the joys of changing a diaper in a bathroom the size of a shower stall.

5/16/2004: On the eve of Kasia's 6 month birthday, she got to taste the wonders of solid food. The rice cereal proved both wonderous and strange.

5/9/2004: Kasia made me the most wonderful mother's day gift. I do suspect that she had some help from Margaret.

4/28/04: She sits! While she's a bit unsteady, she was sitting all by herself for a good minute at a time.
And yes, I mean to update this page much more often than I have been, but amazingly, with a baby and a full time job, it's amazing that I even have enough time to bathe :)

3/21/04: We took Kasia to the boat club for her first formal pictures. The photographer was posing the kids with a baby lamb and chicks against this flowery background. Yes, it was cheesy and wrong, but as new parents, we got sucked in. As soon as they posed the lamb, Kasia wanted to do nothing more than grab the lamb's nose. The photographer (who was also named Kasia) got a couple of good photos before it all became too much and Kasia began crying.

3/20/04: Kasia finally rolled over from tummy to back! She did it several times, rolling to the left and to the right. My excitment over her accomplishment must have been amusing as she laughed.
We weighed Kasia today - she is now 15 pounds 9 ounces. What a big girl!

3/17/04: Kasia is a 1/4 today. She's grown so much in these last four months. She's no longer the high-needs sleepy infant that she once was - and is quickly becoming her own little person.

3/14/04: We are finally getting this site uploaded and ready for the world. We've got a ton of photos that are B.D.C. (before digital camera), that I still need to scan in - and once I get on top of all the photos, I hope to make weekly updates to Kasia's page.

3/9/04: Kasia discovers that Mom can exist in the mirror! One of Kasia's favorite past times is looking at herself in the mirror. Today she looked up and looked at my reflection. She then looked at me; then again at the reflection. How confusing!
Kasia's motor control has improved markedly in the last few days. She easily grabs her toys and puts them right in her mouth. She also has rolled over, but I think it wasn't purposeful, more of an accidental roll-over. So I'm not counting it as one of her milestones, yet.

2/29/04: I finally got Kasia to laugh for me. It was totally out of the blue - she started to fuss, I imitated her fussy noise, and she laughed!
