FREE Services for the Visually Impaired
Experiencing difficulties due to Macular
Degeneration, Diabetic Retinopathy, or other forms of vision loss?
As of October 1st,
New Vision for Independence
has been offering services to adults who
are
experiencing difficulties due to blindness or visual impairment. New
Vision is a non-profit agency serving individuals with
low vision or blindness that has expanded its service area to include The
Villages, and as of October 1st, New Vision is the only agency
providing vision rehabilitation services to residents of The Villages.
If
your vision loss is making it difficult for you to do daily tasks like pouring a
cup of hot coffee, dialing the telephone, identifying money or medication,
cooking, or seeing steps and curbs, New Vision’s Independent Living Skills
classes can teach you to successfully complete these tasks and enable you to
return to a life of independence and confidence.
Services include FREE classes in
Independent Living Skills, Orientation & Mobility,
Braille, Access Technology including keyboarding and computer skills, and Family
Workshops.
The classes also include group
discussion and presentations to help you adjust to vision loss. Topics include
anatomy of the eye, common eye conditions, and self-advocacy. Students
are also assisted in obtaining numerous community resources, including free
telephone directory assistance, handicapped parking permits, property and income
tax exemptions, Talking Books, and ID cards, as needed.
All services are at NO COST to students.

for more information.
