Protecting Your Golf Cart
Protecting Your Golf Clubs
Protecting Your Golf Cart
As
you may or may not know, Jim & Mariagnes Moran had their new golf cart stolen
down at Market Square last week. It was later found slammed into a tree and is a
total loss.
It reminds us to be mindful and protect our carts,
especially after playing golf, when at one of the squares, at restaurants, or
when shopping. Here are some reminders and steps we can take to discourage
thieves from stealing our carts.
Your local cart dealer may have some other devices they can recommend and
install.

Cables with locks can also be used, but they can be cut by a well-equipped
thief. But since theft is often a crime of opportunity, just applying them may
act as a deterrent (one extra step that may draw attention to them). There are
cables with locks that sound an
alarm when the cable is cut. If you go this route, I recommend that you
get one of these.
Protecting Your Golf Clubs
Golf
clubs continue to be a prime target of thieves, whether from your driveway or in
your garage,
or on your golf cart. And thefts usually occur in broad daylight, when you'd
think thieves would be noticed. Not so!
Steps you can take to protect your clubs:
-
Never put golf clubs outside
unattended when waiting for someone to pick you up.
-
Never
leave your clubs unattended on your golf cart. If you can't drop them off at
home first, at least park your cart where you can watch them as you eat.
-
At the very least, put the cover over your clubs
so thieves have an extra step to steal your clubs, increasing the chance of
them being noticed.
-
Put inexpensive head covers on your high-quality
clubs to make them less attractive to a thief.
-
Install a locking system on your golf bag that
will make it more difficult for thieves to take the entire set.
If you
see anyone suspicious or acting suspiciously around golf carts in parking lots,
or if you find golf clubs along the road or in a parking lot, call the police
immediately. And DO NOT touch clubs that you find to preserve any possible
evidence.
