As always, the Community Online Bulletin Board and what is coming up this week has been updated for this week.

Bulletin Board

  • Carol DeSanctis' daughter gives us an update on her health following her surgery last Monday, and thanks you all for your thoughts and prayers.

  • Gary Kadow needs our help for Project SOS (Support Our Soldiers) and asks that we donate children's vitamins and medicines. Read all about it, and please help save a child's life.

  • Deb Harper would like us to know about an organic gardener (farmer) that she's been using out in Pedro. He does not use any chemicals and his prices are very reasonable. His name is Fernando de Marcos and he's located along Hwy 42. one block East of 475 in Pedro (352-615-4775).

  • Ron Kalmin warns us against responding to an email announcing that it is time for your annual check of you social security benefits.

  • Lois Nettelbladt issues and invitation to help a needy family.

  • Thanks to Nancy Manion for taking up the incomplete Lynnhaven pool heater repairs issue.

  • With the upcoming holidays, charities and scammers will be soliciting us for money. Read 'Tis the Season for Giving for a wealth of information on how to prevent scammers & crooks from getting your money and make sure it goes to the charity you intend.

Lynnhaven Ladies

  • Our annual Holiday/Christmas Luncheon is THIS Thursday, December 10th, at Glenview. If you made your reservations, plan on being there at 11:30 a.m. There will be party favors for everyone and two door prizes. See you then.

  • A bus trip to Savannah, Georgia, was suggested and Barbara Nini has made some preliminary inquiries. Read a little more about it. If enough people are interested at this month's luncheon, Barbara will make the arrangements.

  • For January, we'll have Aloha 'O Ka Hula dance for us and teach us to hula. Bring a sack lunch; dessert will be provided by club volunteers. Dues for 2010 will be collected at the meeting. When paying dues, make your check payable to Lynnhaven Ladies. Checks are preferred.

  • See what other programs are tentatively planned for 2010 and mark your calendars now. If you have a program or trip idea to suggest, contact Pat Weaver.

Lynnhaven Ladies Book Club

  • We discussed Heart and Soul by Maeve Binchy on Thursday, December 3rd, then went to Glenview for our annual Holiday luncheon. Read all about it and see some pictures that were taken.

  • Peg sends club members a Thank You note.

  • The club's 5th anniversary is in January, and we'll be celebrating by going to lunch after our discussion. Also, Lovely Bones should be hitting the theaters in January, so we'll have a "field trip" when it comes to The Villages. Stay tuned.

  • Next month we'll be discussing South of Broad by Pat Conroy. Hope to see you then.

  • You can plan your reading for upcoming months by seeing upcoming books.

Sports in Lynnhaven

  • The Lynnhaven Neighborhood game scheduled for Saturday, December 5th, was cancelled due to the heavy rains that soaked the field.

  • The last game of the Fall season will be Saturday, December 12th, at 11:00 a.m. at the Saddlebrook Softball complex. Our neighborhood team will be playing the Palo Alto team.

  • Eileen McGuirk finally gets her own hole-in-one (Harold got his in September 2007). That makes two Lynnhaven holes-in-one this November, Eileen's and Fran Helwig's. Congratulations, ladies!

Reminders

Bulletin Board

  • Don't be complacent about your golf cart and golf clubs. With Mariagnes & Jim Moran just having had their new golf cart stolen and wrecked, it seemed like a good time to refresh our memories on how to protect our carts and clubs.

  • Hope you read the Better Business Bureau's advice for while the 2010 Census is being taken and how to tell the difference between a U.S. Census worker and a con artist. Forewarned is forearmed.

  • Sandi Testerman passed along an email from a friend who had SECO's whole-house surge protection... or thought she had protection.

  • Having difficulty or know of someone experiencing vision difficulties due to Macular Degeneration, Diabetic Retinopathy, or other forms of vision loss? Remember to let everyone you know who has visual challenges about New Vision for Independence's Independent Living Skills classes. The classes are FREE.

  • Sue Fitzgerald passed along information about a January cruise to the Bahamas. Supposedly, a lot of Villagers are going on the cruise.

  • Thanks to Marion Getzes and Ron Kalmin for passing along Aspirin for Heart Attacks. Re-review the symptoms so you can recognize them. And ladies, be sure to read Female Heart Attacks, since the symptoms women experience may be more subtle.

  • Ken Kraut passed along information about lightning strikes on homes in The Villages and how you can help protect your home.

The September 2009 issue of The Villages Voice has some articles that you should be able to view online soon, with some tips on protecting your home.

  • Remember, John Manion is appears every Wednesday at the Sonrise Cafe in Southern Trace Shopping Center, across the parking lot from the Publix.
