MORE COOL LINKS – GAMES OF THE ANCIENT WORLD

Royal Game of Ur – Check out this board game – it’s probably the oldest known board game in the world.  But the archeologists aren’t sure of the rules – play this version and see what you think the rules might have been.  This site is from the British Museum, who partnered with the University of Pennsylvania to excavate the Royal Tombs of Ur.  Read the story of the excavation and explore the tombs!
Another version of the rules to the game is here.
And a shareware version with an interesting introduction that weaves in a time warp to the first Gulf War can be downloaded from here – if nothing else read the help file.  The author says he is “programming my way through history, one game at a time”, and his page has many other ancient games to explore.

MORE COOL LINKS - PAPERMAKING

Make a paper bag book – Make an interesting book out of a paper bag.  A nice rainy-day, stuck-in-the-house activity.

Bookmaking Projects

Historic Rittenhouse Town – This would be a cool field trip – the first paper made in the American colonies was here in Philadelphia.

Virtual Tour of the History of Paper
