Road Widening Project

from the Maryland State Highway Administration

15 November 2005 - Shady Side Road will be one lane from 8 PM to 3 PM the following day from November 16 to November 30 to allow for the paving and restriping operation. The construction manager has verified that these times are correct (strange as they may seem). There will be flagmen and at night there will be lights.

The Maryland State Highway Administration has started the widening project along MD 468 from MD 256 (Deale Churchton Road) to Cedarhurst Road and from 500ft east of Swamp Circle Road to 500ft west of Chalk Point Road. MD 468 will be widened 4ft in both directions. The travel lane width will be changed from 12ft lanes to 11ft lanes with 5ft shoulders with new ditches in each direction. MD 468 will be resurfaced from MD 255 (Galesville Road) to Snug Harbor Road. Currently utility relocation is in progress as well as new storm drain modifications. Signs and traffic drums will be used to guide motorist through work zones.

If you have any questions or comments contact the SHA field office at 410-867-6507.

Bus Routes - Annapolis to Deale

Meeting March 15 and March 31

There's great news for the east side of South County - a rural bus route is being created to run from Spa Road in Annapolis, along Rt 2 to Edgewater, over to Muddy Creek Road to Galesville and Shady Side, and then over to Deale on Rt 256. Help get the word out about the new route, and encourage your community and neighbors to attend the two public meetings this month.

Those without transportation to Annapolis, Edgewater, Galesville, Shady Side, Churchton, Deale and areas in between can now take the bus to the library, the doctor's office, to work...Monday through Friday. If all goes right, the bus will start running in May, 2004.

See the attached flyer for all the details.

Hope to see you at one of these meetings. We want your input.

Department of Public Works Snow Removal Website
DPW has created a new online snow service request site. You can see what level of service to expect on your specific road and there is a form to report problems or service that does not meet the specification.
Go to the DPW site at www.aacounty.org/dpw and click on Snow Information.
OR this link should also take you directly to the Snow Information site.

Rt. 468 ~ SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS:
According to the State Highway Administration... (Phase I) Widening between West River Estates and Millers Garage. "Fly-bys" are being installed at Sudley/West River Estates and Swamp Circle Road. Muddy Creek and Deale-Churchton Road has gotten a new traffic light, the camera's on the lights are traffic indicating devices which let the signaling system know that a vehicle is waiting for the light to turn green. A right turn lane is being installed onto Deale-Churchton at this intersection. The State Highway Administration is beginning the planning stage regarding upgrading Shady Side Road from Deale Churchton Road to at least Cedarhurst Road, this (phase II) project will include widening the road lanes, adding shoulders to both sides of the road and relocating utility poles. It appears at this time, that this portion of the project would occur sometime between 2003-2005, with the actual construction duration being about 18 months weather permitting. In the meantime, you may begin to notice survey crews from time to time.
