The September 1996 total Lunar Eclipse after totality

Lunar eclipses are wonderful events. It is like having the Grand Canyon delivered to your back yard for your viewing pleasure. The moon is constantly changing from one beautiful shade to another. The relatively long duration of these events make them relaxing and pleasant.

That was an unforgettable night. I thought I would do some public service and take the scope over to my daughter's school during an open house. There was quite a line behind the scope and I didn't have the nerve to move them out of the way so that I could shot pictures. Finally, after bedtime, I was able to shot the 10 second exposure on 400 speed film (top) and the 1/60 second exposure (bottom).
