Frequently Asked Questions
What is hypnotherapy
and how does it work?
Hypnotherapy is a combination of hypnosis and other therapeutic techniques
that utilize the benefits of hypnosis in healing. With hypnosis you can
connect vividly to memories, work directly with the physical systems of
the body, clearly visualize things that you want to create and connect
with intuition and inner guidance.
Does insurance cover hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy falls under the umbrella of psychotherapy in Colorado. If
your insurance covers psychotherapy then it also covers hypnotherapy and
may pay for my services. I provide my clients the billing forms needed
to be reimbursed by their insurance companies for my services. I take
credit cards which helps postpone payment for you until you can receive
reimbursement from insurance. If you have approval for therapy from your
car insurance company for therapy for a car accident I can bill the car
insuance company directly.
What does a hypnotherapy
session look like?
The sessions are one hour, and tailored to the needs of the client. They
usually consist of discussing what you want to create, then working with
that in hypnosis. During hypnosis you are taken through deep relaxation
and then we do the suggestions, visualizations and any interactive work
that is appropriate to create what you want. You are always safe, aware
and in control.
How long does hypnotherapy
take?
It all depends on what you want to create. The hypnotherapy work I do
is results-oriented and we keep the focus on the changes you are trying
to make in your life, thus speeding the process of change. Hypnosis is
a skill which can take the client a couple sessions to learn. People usually
experience some immediate benefit simply from the deep relaxation and
inner connection that come with hypnosis. I train everyone in self-hypnosis
and have hypnosis tapes and CD’s so you can continue the work outside
of sessions. I can also make customized
CD's to support you in continuing to make progress between sessions, and
for maintaining your progress after you complete therapy.
Can I be hypnotized?
Yes. All hypnosis is self hypnosis and when you feel safe and trust the
practitioner you can allow your conscious mind to relax and fall into
deeper and deeper states of trance.
What is Hypnosis *
The term “hypnosis” is derived from the Greek word for sleep,
yet even though the hypnotized person may resemble someone asleep (eyes
closed to avoid distraction, etc.) electroencephalogram (EEG) studies
show that hypnotized persons are fully awake and alert.
Though there is no one definition of hypnosis that is accepted by all,
below are some common perspectives.
- A relaxed, hypersuggestible
state:
Persons experience deep physical or mental relaxation, becoming more
open to suggestions.
- A state of focused selective
attention:
Persons tend to focus their attention narrowly, perceiving some things
very vividly, while excluding others from awareness.
- A natural, altered state
of consciousness:
Persons enter a state that, though different from their “normal”
state, is attained through a very natural process.
- A temporary dissociation:
Persons experience a temporary suspension of logical information processing;
can become unaware of their surroundings, or be forward and / or backward
in time mentally and emotionally.
- Guided imagination:
Persons are guided, either by another person or one’s self through
the use of creative imagination.
