Tree Care Tips

• Use the right size stand - make sure the stand fits the tree. don't have the stand too big or too small and never cut the sides of the tree to fit into the stand. this reduces the amount of water the tree can absorb.

• Use a stand with the correct water capacity - a tree can use up to one quart of water per day for each inch of trunk diameter.

• Make a fresh cut - a fresh cut re-opens the pores and increases water absorption. only half an inch is necessary.

• Use plain tap water, warm or cold - keeping the stand filled with tap water will keep the tree fresh for weeks. it is important to check the water level daily to make sure the water level doesn't go below the base of the tree.

• Keep away from heat sources - fireplaces, heaters, heat vents, direct sunlight and overloaded outlets are all fire hazards. Trees fare better in lower room temperatures.

• Always turn the lights off when leaving the house or going to bed.
