  • 60 Hours practice
    1. Shomenuchi Ikkyo (omote & ura)
    2. Shomenuchi Iriminage
    3. Katatetori Shihonage (omote & ura)
    4. Ryotetori Tenchinage
    5. Tsuki Kotegaeshi
    6. Ushiro Tekubitori Kotegaeshi
    7. Morotetori Kokyuho

4th Kyu Requirements

  • 80 Hours practice since previous test
    1. Shomenuchi Nikyo (omote & ura)
    2. Yokomenuchi Shihonage (omote & ura)
    3. Tsuki Iriminage
    4. Ushiro Tekubitori Sankyo (omote & ura)
    5. Suwari Waza:
      • Shomenuchi Ikkyo
      • Katatori Nikyo (omote & ura)
      • Katatori Sankyo

3rd Kyu Requirements

  • 100 Hours practice since previous test
    1. Yokomenuchi Iriminage (2 ways)
    2. Yokomenuchi Kotegaeshi
    3. Tsuki Kaitenage
    4. Ushiro Ryokatatori Sankyo (omote & ura)
    5. Morotetori Iriminage (2 ways)
    6. Shomenuchi Sankyo (omote & ura)
    7. Suwari Waza:

    8. Hanmi Handachi:

    4. Shomenuchi - 5 techniques
    5. Ryotetori - 5 techniques
    6. Koshinage - 5 techniques
    7. Hanmi Handachi:
      • Ushiro Waza - 5 techniques
    8. Tantotori
    9. Free Style - 3 persons

Shodan Requirements

  • 400 Hours practice since previous test
    1. All of the 1st Kyu requirements
    2. Tachitori (uke attacks with bokuto)
    3. Jotori (uke attacks with jo)
    4. Henkawaza (changing technique)
    5. Free Style - 4 persons

Nidan Requirements

  • 600 Hours practice since previous test
  • Attend two seminars per year
    1. All of the Shodan requirements
    2. Tachitori with two uke
    3. Free Style - 5 persons
    4. Kaeshi Waza

Notes

  • The hour requirements are counted from the previous promotion or the date the student started Aikido training. Only one hour per day is counted toward the testing requirements.
  • The test requirements at all levels are at the discretion of the examining instructor; additional techniques are commonly requested on higher-level tests.
