Electricity?
We don't got no electricity! We don't need no steenking electricity!
"What
are you, circus people?"
- some cop very early in the morning on
the shores of Lake Superior (no kidding!)
The
best parties I've
gone to all seemed to have somehow involved this fellow called
Mindrive, from afterbars in dingy basements and attics to organized
events in St. Louis, Chicago, and all over Wisconsin, indoors and out,
in barns, bars, convention centers, bowling alleys, a drag strip,
arcades,
and yes, warehouses. The promoter in jail, the headliner fleeing,
I can still see Mindrive bravely
at
the wheels, under a tent on an island, risking arrest and raising the
volume at a party I wish I could only remember the name of...
I took a
shine to Chad
Mindrive and asked him for a mixtape when he was a Cardinal Bar DJ in
Madison, Wisconsin in the mid 90s.
Although I've long ago lost the '94 tape and artwork (as well as
contact
with Chad), I've hung onto an early
digital
copy I made. A link to a high
bitrate
mp3 download is currently available here, and I've also provided a
low bitrate stream. I've tweeked the files to
reduce tape hiss while boosting the high end, and the result is
not unlistenable. These
mixes are probably best considered as historical documents of a popular
DJ.
