Lighthouse Park Carousel

horses and organ at LHP

Built by the Murphy Brothers, the Lighthouse Park Carousel has remained in the same location since 1916. There are 72 animals onboard which were carved by Charles I.D. Loof, Charles Carmel and the Murphy Brothers. It also has two exotic dragon chariots that sit on opposite sides of the platform.

The Carousel weathered many storms and hurricanes at it's seaside location. After over 50 years in operation, age & deterioration caused it to eventually shut down. It was dismantled and put in storage along with the Stinson band organ that accompanied it.

An"Adopt-A-Horse" program was formed in 1980 to restore the carousel through private funding. After many hours of scraping, painting and restoration to the animals, the organ and the building that houses the carousel it was ready to ride once again.

In 1983 The Carousel at Lighthouse Point Park was placed in the National Register of Historic Places. Located in New Haven, CT. you can visit and ride the Carousel from May till September.
