THE MEDIA   THE POSSE   THE LIVING DEAD

Ben (Duane Jones) - After surviving the now infamous "Beakman's Diner Massacre", Ben managed to steal a pickup truck, but unfortunately forgot to check the gas gauge before hitting the boonies, and coasted on fumes to a rural farmhouse.  He is a quick thinker, but he is terribly stubborn, and unwilling to consider others ideas.  One thing is for sure, it's his way or the highway.
Barbara (Judy O'Dea) - Now in her mid twenties, beautiful young Barbara is still coping with the loss of her Father.   In a bit of an economic bind, she was forced to move in with her mother.  Unfortunately her 29 year old brother Johnny still lived there, and he was a real pain in the ass.  She has no car, so her mother forces brother Johnny to give her a ride to the cemetery, to put a wreath on her father's grave.
Johnny (Russ Streiner) - Recently laid off from the local refinery, Johnny has been existing in a state of ignorant bliss, too afraid to confront his fears about being a 29 year old, unemployed and unmarried male, still living with his mother.  However, he does have decent luck with the ladies despite his lowly status, thus enlarging his already gigantic ego.  His stylish 3 piece suits and the always effective pocket protector is usually enough to send any of the local women into a state of submissive ecstasy.
The Coopers (Harry-Karl Hardman, Helen-Marylyn Eastman, Karen-Kyra Schon) - While driving his family home from an out of town Business meeting, Karl and his wife Helen got in a major argument over their now fledgling advertising agency.  The argument came to a tumultuous climax when they smashed into a slow moving pedestrian crossing the rural highway.  The screaming began anew when Harry began to consider abandoning the scene.  During the bickering, Kyra slipped out of the car unnoticed, concerned about the person they struck with their 1958 Edsel.  Harry and Helen's argument was interrupted by the screams of their daughter being bitten on the arm by the now extremely pissed off ghoul.  Helen ran outside and scooped up Karen immediately while Harry remained in the car in a state of cowardly oblivion.  Once back inside the car, Harry would not respond to Helen's commands, inspiring her to deliver a punishing left cross to his forehead, leaving a nasty bruise.  Harry snaps out of it, but by this time there were four or five of these "crazed" humans surrounding the car.  The ghouls managed to tip the car on its side, but lucky for the Coopers, the car fell and rolled back the opposite way, crushing the remaining ghouls.  The Coopers then made their way down the highway on foot, eventually coming across a rural farmhouse, where they encountered a young couple, also trying to hide.
Tom and Judy (Keith Wayne and Judith Ridley) -  Tom and Judy were the typical teenagers in love.  Tired after a long day of swimming and sunbathing, Tom decided it would be a good idea to look for a nice quiet place for them to go and "talk".  Tom remembered and old farm house within walking distance.  On the way they heard screams, and a frantic sounding man.  They ran to see what was wrong.  It was an middle aged couple and their injured daughter.  They broke into the farmhouse only to find the inhabitants dead.  After listening to the middle aged mans description of the "crazed humans" that were in pursuit, they convinced Tom and Judy that hiding in the cellar would be the safest place.
