The Loft

What once was a storage facility for civil defense emergency supplies became the plush 70's lair for our four heroes.  The loft was actually a set built for the film in a downtown Pittsburgh location.  A faux skylight was created on the roof of the mall to match the layout of the loft set.  The stairway leading to the loft is located at the mall.   When you leave the stairway you enter a hallway, venture through the boiler room, enter another hallway (the same hallway as before) which leads to the "hideout hallway"  where Peter and
Steven build a wall to conceal the entrance.  Logistically, this pass through the boiler room isn't necessary, but it is needed for the discovery of the maintenance office, the maps, and the keys to the kingdom.  The loft would be located somewhere above the executive professional offices, just off the hallway located opposite of the community room on the second floor.  According to where the faux skylight was located on the mall roof, the loft would be located about the same area, on the opposite wing.
Steven and Fran's bedroom seems to be the only bedroom in the loft.  It is the same room that Peter enters at the end of the movie when he is contemplating suicide.  Perhaps he slept on the  mack-daddy red couch?  The mall offered a variety of conveniences, and one such item was their state of the art stereo system.  The stereo system was a Bang & Olufson Beosystem 4000, equipped with a linear tracking system record player.  For a detailed display of this system click here.
