Intensive Grazing with Sheep

In the fall of 2000, The Trustees of Reservations (TTOR) began a program of intensive grazing to control invasive plants such as bittersweet and buckthorn. The grazing is being done by a herd of sheep, rented from and cared for by Bellweather Solutions.

The several areas being grazed are geographically separated, requiring the Bellweather shepherds to move the sheep from place to place. The photos below show about 400 of the sheep being moved from Hog Island to Castle Hill, Ipswich, Mass.

Many thanks to TTOR, the Bellweather Soloutions staff for allowing me to photograph that event.
